My Big List of Digital

Professional Learning Networks

Of course I am involved in face to face professional learning communities.  But if you are looking for some ideas on who/what  to follow and connect with, here's a selection that I enjoy.

Organizations I follow on Twitter:

  • @ISTE - The International Society for Technology in Education

  • @EdSurge - "EdSurge is an independent education technology information resource and community."

  • @Getting_Smart - "Getting_Smart supports innovations in learning, education & technology."

  • @NSTA - National Science Teacher Association (because I spent 15 years teaching science...its the BEST subject in my opinion)

  • @TCEA - Texas Computer Education Association

  • @CanvasLMS - Canvas is the learning management system my school district began using 6 years ago.

Organizations I follow on Facebook:

  • Teach with tech - I just stumbled upon their Summer 2018 conference info.  I know what I am going to be looking out for next summer!  So far, I probably feel like I am able to follow this one the best because I "get" Facebook.

Other sites I joined or bookmarked:

  • The Canvas Community - Do you/your district use Canvas LMS?  I turn here to get answers to all my burning questions.

  • Class Tech Tips - Dr. Monica Burns shares her tips and experiences with using technology in the classroom.

  • Kathy Schrock's Guide to Everything - Kathy Schrock has been in the game since the 90's...helping teachers sort through all kinds of web resources.

  • Feedspot - Feedspot is a place your can connect all kinds of blogs, websites, and social media in one place.  I got really excited about this one and clicked too many things to follow for the free version.  Probably going to stick with free (even though I think the fee structure is nominal) for a while.

  • Christensen Institute - This is the most recent addition to my list.  I'm super interesting the the "Disruptive Innovations" section.  Not inventing new things, but how existing technologies are made more affordable and accessible and then watching them knock their more expensive competitors out of the market.  This is where/how we get more technology in the hands of all students!

I also need to mention and thank my cohort of classmates in the 2018 Summer II start of theDLL program at Lamar University!  They are an amazing professional learning network.  Specifically, I want to give a shout out to my small group.  They have been an amazing source of support.
